The Extrusion Process
The extrusion process is a transformation of aluminum cylinders, also called billets, into aluminum profiles.
This process including several operations:
From long lengths logs obtained by casting of aluminium alloy, the billets are cut to optimized lengths. These are heated in an oven and then introduced into the container of the press.
The hydraulic press applies greater pressure the material and forces it to escape through a die. The die is made of special steel. The flow corresponds to the desired section for the profile which is obtained by electro-erosion. The profile extruded from the press according to the spinning speed is cooled in contact with the air.
Then, profiles are stretched on a traction bench in order to release the residual stress.
Then, profiles are sawed to the desired length and stored to wait for heat treatment which will ensure the mechanical hardening. The duration of the heat treatment is performed at temperatures and times corresponding to the requirements of the desired mechanical characteristics.
At this stage of the process, the profile is ready to go to the surface treatment.

The Surface Treatment
Extruded aluminium profiles are treated to improve corrosion protection. Those treatments improve the appearance and the surface quality. That is optimized and sufficient for many application.
With the very good corrosion resistance properties, the objective of the surface treatment of the aluminium is an improvement of this corrosion protection and the apply of a color on the profile.

Anodizing
Anodizing is an electrochemical process, which consists of thickening the natural and transparent layer of oxide on the surface of aluminum. Anodizing is used, among other things, to obtain an aesthetic surface that keeps the natural color of aluminum, but this process also makes it possible to obtain other colors.

Powder Coating Process
Powder coating offers almost an unlimited range of colors, allowing different aspects and uniformity of colors. Powder coating is today most used for the lacquering of aluminum profiles. The lacquering allows the extending of the lifespan of the aluminum profiles and the design of the aesthetics and the color desired; but also other mechanical advantages.
